Bah. Would have been nice of them to mention, when in GMail you enable POP access for all your past emails, that actually using the service is pretty much guaranteed to get you locked out of your account for up to 24 hours. I had downloaded messages for up to June 2006 when it locked me out of not just POP access but my entire GMail account. Looks like I just have to sit it out. If you want to backup your GMail I'd recommend downloading no more than a few months of email each day. Better than Hotmail, though. I had to use that address to fill in the GMail response form, and when I logged in I found that they'd deleted all my emails for not logging in for too long.
