I'll admit that I've only had time to skim the legislation, but if it says what this Times article says it does, and what it appears to say, then... uh... what the fuck? I mean, seriously. What's the point of parliament if ministers can circumvent it entirely almost whenever they please? How are its vague restrictions like "[the provision must] strike a fair balance between the public interest and the interests of any person adversely affected by it" going to be enforced without parliamentary debate? Where are the safeguards? What the hell is going on?
I am rapidly coming to the conclusion that questions of socialism versus conservatism are becoming redundant in the face of a rising tide of anti-democracy. Help me! Please!
